But I’ve seen some of the web hosting companies already announced to offer the dedicated server below $50/month, I think that must be crazy. And I think most of the web developers don’t need dedicated servers, since they don’t want to cost too much, even the dedicated server is below $50/month, but to most of the developers, it’s still a higher cost. The shared hosting server usually require a lower level of technical skills too, because the host does most of the server administration. But for the dedicated servers, almost all of the things need to be controlled by your own. They can install any software on the dedicated server hostings, but for the shared hosting server, if you’d like to intall some special applications, it must contact with the server administrator to check whether it’s possiblt to install on the server first. With remote access, you can control the whole server easily.
You may feel happy when the web hosting providers announce to offer unlimited monthly bandwidth for the shared servers. But that’s not correct. Once you’ve used too much server resources and much bandwidth, I think the web host doesn’t want to see that. They would request you to upgrade to a higher server and if they don’t have higher plan, they might request you move to another web hosting. This is one of the week point for the shared servers. But for dedicated server, the web hosting can offer a certain bandwidth and you can check the details stats about the bandwidth you’ve used. If your website is out of the limit, you can purchase additional bandwidth from them.
As usual, the dedicated server can be mroe safe than the shared servers, since there’re too many websites on the shared servers and if there’s any other websites suffered hijacked or infected by virus, your websites might be affected, too. And on the dedicated server, you can install any anti-software and firewall as you want. If you wan to store highly sensitive information on your server, then dedicated server would be best option.
